Southwestern Fare in the Southeast

On a steamy August Saturday night in Atlanta, what would be better than some spicy Southwestern food to help counteract the dog days of summer? On this evening we decided to pay a visit to Nava, one of the Buckhead Life Group restaurants. I was a little suspect of how one could make a liquid cocktail described as a Jalapeno Margarita taste spicy. Believe me, someone figured it out. So far we were off to a great start that evening.

Those of you who read my blog regularly know that I’m a sucker for lobster. If it’s on the menu, it’s on my table. That evening it arrived in the form of an appetizer. It’s called a Green Chile Lobster Taco and I must say it was very good! Chunks of fresh lobster, salsa fresca and Tequila sour cream, all wrapped in a soft flour tortilla and covered with Cascabel Cream. The taco was excellent. Two for two so far.

Next up was the Chipotle BBQ Beef Brisket Taco with Southwestern Slaw. Once again it was an excellent choice. Just enough heat in the brisket and the slaw was the perfect accompaniment. Melt in your mouth tender bursting with tons of Southwest flavors.

Time for entrees. I ordered the salmon. More precisely, the Short Smoked Scottish Salmon with Chorizo & Yukon Potato Hash, Goat Cheese and Chipotle Lime Hollandaise. So far everything we ordered was excellent. I was really expecting something special. I was disappointed that the salmon was just salmon, and was overpowered by the chorizo and potato hash. Chorizo is very spicy and it was just too much for this dish.

My dining partner ordered the Red Chile Seared Scallops served on Smoked Tomato Grits with Saffron “Tostada” and Salsa Fresca. The scallops were very tasty but the portion of grits was enormous and way too much to finish.

All in all it was a very pleasant Saturday night out in Atlanta.

I can’t imagine how you eat that much. It sounds wonderful and I will try Nava the first chance I get.
